Stigler is a prime Oklahoma and Kiamichi Country tourist attraction. Stigler Tourism and business is Booming Lake Eufaula, one of the largest lakes in the U.S., lies less than 20 miles to the west, while Robert S. Kerr Lake is just a few miles east of Stigler. Stigler even has its own blue water lake, Lake John Wells. It is a popular lake for fishing, swimming, and boating. Stigler also is lucky to have Brier Creek Gold Course to challenge area golfers.
Throughout the year Stigler hosts two main festivals, Reunion Days, always the third Saturday in June, and the Fall Festival and Car Show, always the fourth Saturday in October. The annual Christmas parade, and the “Shop Stigler Cash Giveaways” also draws families from far and wide. From Easter Egg Hunt through the Memorial Day’s Cruise night on to the Christmas parade the first weekend in December something is happening in Stigler.
Stigler -- and Haskell County overall – is a small community with a big heart and opens its arms to craftsmen and artists of all kinds. It’s the home of such well known painters as Norma Howard and Susie Whitebird Murphy, as well as many other talented artists. The Chamber of Commerce office on Main Street doubles as an art gallery, with a different local artist displaying his or her work every month, from paintings to collages and more. Haskell County is also home to a wide array of talented musicians, many of whom gather for various circle jams and picking events on a weekly basis, singing and playing a wide variety of music.
Saddle up your life preserver, hitch up you boot, load up the camera, head to Stigler, Oklahoma, “the land between two lakes!”
